The supportive Festival called “
Argentina abraza a Chile”
(
Argentina Embraces Chile) held on the last 13th March
at Figueroa Alcorta & Pampa Streets, exceeded dramatically the
goals proposal. More than 60 tons donations have been collected and the
big crowd attending was a clear evidence of the Argentine people’s
commitment with our Chilean neighbours. The 100,000 people attending the
event brought mineral water, long-life milks, antibiotics, medicines,
diapers and warming clothes which were welcomed by the Solidarity
Network / Red Solidaria and will be handed in to the earthquake disaster
victims.
Corporación América and Aeropuertos
Argentina 2000 through Hugo Eurnekian (the
Corporation Director) and Jorge Lukowski (AA200 Institutional
Relationships Manager) handed in 300,000 “Super Soup” portions;
this soup is a very high nutritional sort of concentrated food made by Universidad
Nacional de Quilmes and ArgNatural Beef.
The festival started formally somewhat after 16:30 with a short
speech by Ricardo Darín: “You are not alone, we are
not going to abandon you” said the actor and at the same time
highlighted the need of gathering mineral water, long-life milk, coats
and medicines. The musical part of the event started with León
Gieco and Gustavo Santaolalla duet who interpreted “Pensar en
nada” (Thinking on nothing).
Then it was singer Gustavo Cerati’s turn who started
his performance at around 16.50. Together with singer Andrés
Calamaro on the stage, he sang “Crimen” (Crime), one of his
hits of “Ahí Vamos” (There we go), and “Trátame suavemente”(Treat me
softly), by Daniel Melero. Soda Stereo
Group former leader was on the stage for almost an hour and addressed
the audience with these words, “Bear in mind that we are doing it (i.e.
the festival) for the poor and not for the governments”
Then, it was León Gieco with D-Mente’s turn and Los Fabulosos
Cadillacs group, and singers Raúl Porchetto and Pedro Aznar
followed, amongst others. At the closing, around 20.00pm, all the
abovementioned artists were on the stage singing together “Solo le pido a
Dios” (I’m just asking God).
The purpose of the concert show was collecting donations to be
delivered to the victims of the earthquake that struck Chile on the last
27th February. The event will be also the first link of the Solidarity
Network who will seek to rebuild schools and health centres within the
earthquake affected areas.
Apart from Corporación América and Aeropuertos Argentina 2000, and Julio Ernesto Gutierrez Conte and many
other International and national companies accompanied this important
benefit event: YPF, Banco Macro, Edenor, Oca, Rock & Pop,
TN, Samsung and Harley Davidson, amongst others.
