Julio Ernesto Gutierrez Conte, president of AeropuertosArgentina 2000, and a number of directors and representatives from theArgentine Chamber of Air Carriers a (JURCA, known in Spanish as Cámarade Compañías Aéreas de la Argentina) have analyzed the evolution of theconstruction project for the new Ezeiza International Airport. They allagreed in highlighting the technological and infrastructure advancesthe new station will introduce.
The presentation of the work plan for the new Ezeiza Airport was heldat the Emperador Hotel. Among the people present for the event wereJURCA head, Sergio Hurtado, and the directors from all the airlinesoperating in the country.
“We believe this is a very important project that will give our countrya world-class airport and enough capacity to operate like any majorairport worldwide,” Hurtado asserted after the presentation.
The executive stressed the importance of the infrastructure projectunder way. Moreover, he laid the emphasis on the introduction ofcutting-edge technology in every service it will provide to theairlines, which will in turn enhance efficiency.
During the business breakfast, it was pointed out that the demolitionof terminal C (horseshoe-like shape) is on its final phase. Thisproject and the other extremely complex engineering projects under wayhave demanded an investment of 95 million pesos.
The presentation was the occasion chosen to confirm that the totalinvestment for the project would total 955 million pesos. Moreover, itwas explained the airport would have capacity to handle 13 millionpassengers a year (4,000 passengers in rush hours) and that the newterminal would have a total of 120,000 square meters in area.
The chapter of the work plan focused on providing Ezeiza airport withcapabilities to accommodate domestic flights had a positive impactamong the international air carriers. This is so because it will givethem the possibility of offering direct connections to differentdestinations across the country from Ezeiza airport instead of havingto transfer tourists to Jorge Newbery domestic airport (also known asAeroparque) for domestic connections.
Emphasis was also laid on the importance of the roadwork that will makeit possible to rely on different and independent access roads foremployees, passengers, and cargo. The gradual introduction of newbaggage handling belts was also welcomed by the air carriers’executives.
The project plan will articulate the new terminal at Ezeiza taking aset of interconnected buildings as a basis. Thus, this would allowharmonizing operations in the different existing areas such as runways, aprons, roads, and the adjacent facilities.
Terminal A and its different sectors will be kept and refurbished, which in combination with a completely new building, will become thesole international and domestic terminal.
The southern wing will accommodate domestic operations. In addition, itwill rely on flexible design features that could be used forinternational flights if the demand may so require it.
The new Ezeiza airport will have seven new aircraft parking positions,21 boarding bridges, and a new control tower at the platform. Inaddition, it will rely on 4,800 parking spaces, 200 check-in positions, and 86 Immigration counters.
